CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA CELEBRATION SET FOR THE SPRING EQUINOX

Tara and Navi’s black tie Carmel-by-the-Sea wedding took place along the stunning Northern California coastline at the historic Hyatt Carmel Highlands Inn. Perched above the Pacific Ocean, this iconic coastal venue set the stage for a celebration inspired by timeless romance, scenic drives along Highway 1, and the magic of the spring equinox.

 

Weddings along the Carmel and Big Sur coastline are one of my favorites to film as a Northern California wedding videographer. The dramatic cliffs and ocean views always create a cinematic backdrop for great storytelling.

 

From our first meeting, Tara and Navi shared that meaningful milestones in their relationship often happened during seasonal shifts — equinoxes and solstices marking new beginnings. Their ceremony design beautifully reflected the spring equinox, with vibrant florals climbing a whimsical wooden circle arch overlooking the Pacific.

 

OCEANVIEW CEREMONY AT HYATT CARMEL HIGHLANDS

Guests were welcomed onto the open-air redwood gazebo deck with panoramic views of the Carmel Highlands coastline. The sound of waves crashing below blended with a romantic string quartet as Navi and Tara walked down the aisle. The couple exchanged heartfelt vows surrounded by sweeping ocean views — a defining feature of a Hyatt Carmel Highlands wedding ceremony.

One of the most cinematic moments to capture was their first kiss beneath a burst of colorful confetti. The petals floated through the coastal air like cherry blossoms in spring — playful, romantic, and perfectly aligned with the equinox theme.

 

COASTAL COCKTAIL HOUR WITH BLACKJACK AND SUNSET VIEWS

During cocktail hour, guests enjoyed their drinks and the stunning ocean views. We filmed candid moments of laughter, champagne toasts, and a few lively rounds of blackjack. Meanwhile, orchestral renditions of the couple’s favorite anime songs filled the air, creating a uniquely personal atmosphere layered against the grandeur of the Northern California coast.

 

A STYLISH PORSCHE GRAND ENTRANCE ALONG HIGHWAY 1

Nearly a year before their wedding, Navi reached out about creating a custom pre-wedding story film to surprise their guests. They invested in my engagement session add-on, and we filmed a music-video style short along iconic Highway 1, featuring the couple driving their baby blue Porsche Spyder past sentimental coastal locations.

 

The film premiered during the reception, drawing cheers and applause from all their guests — but the celebration didn’t stop there. Guests were then led outside, where Tara and Navi made a dramatic grand entrance in the same Porsche Spyder from their film. Against the backdrop of the Pacific coastline, it was a moment that felt straight out of a classic California love story!

 

WHIMSICAL RECEPTION OVERLOOKING THE BIG SUR COASTLINE

The reception took place inside the Inn’s restaurant space, where panoramic windows framed the dramatic Big Sur coastline. Hanging vines and chandeliers carried the spring-inspired design indoors, blending elegance with coastal charm. 

 

From their emotional first dance to heartfelt parent dances, every moment reflected the balance of sophistication and joy that defined this black tie coastal wedding.

 

A CINEMATIC CARMEL HIGHLANDS WEDDING FILM

Tara and Navi loved how I balanced their highlight film between the emotional personal vows, energetic grand entrance, and timeless black tie vibes. After reliving their ceremony through film, they chose to also invest in a full ceremony edit — preserving every word, wave crash, and confetti-filled moment from their spring equinox wedding on the Northern California coast.
